Genesis 3

But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9

I remember my first class in Chemistry 2o2 – I walked out of class feeling dumber than a lamb! Thermodynamics was the course and boy it bogged my mind those first few classes. Second class came and the Prof asked “who can tell me the 2nd law of thermodynamics?” Blank stares and silence! Nobody had quiet understood all the physics gibberish!

Turns out its as simple as this: everything tends to disorder! In other words, things keep going from good to bad to worse. And so was the case in perfect and pretty new earth. No sooner was all beautiful and lovely than corruption seeped in. All because man could not hold himself but indulge in the forbidden and thereby disobey God, lose everything and earn sin, misery and death. Now that is worst to the power infinity!

But what had happened? A simple command as eat and do everything but don’t eat one fruit couldn’t have been that hard to keep – right? Well, if it was, we all wouldn’t be living in this sin and death laden earth with all the havoc that comes with it. It’s as simple as this – it started with a lie, followed by disbelief, then came the denial and blame game. Who would want to acknowledge responsibility for all that went, goes and continues to go wrong in the world!

While they were hiding (and am sure fighting all along), God, who should have been angry with seething and fiery wrath, walks in like a breeze and calls out “Where are you?” If it was me, I would macheting that place down and screaming hell and fire on them for messing my beautiful earth. But not God.

What an amazing and awesome God we have!!! I tremble to think of his goodness to me and my waywardness towards him. Yet in love he sought out Adam and Eve and seeks us out today. In rebuking their sin, God promised salvation to Adam and Eve (Gen 3:15). That promise was fulfilled in Jesus!

Like a good shepherd, Jesus calls us to himself and the precious Holy Spirit gently coos conviction in our hearts to return and be reconciled to God. Won’t you come to Him today? Won’t you walk more deeply and more sweetly with Him? Its possible and available for you today. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)
